Six distinguished local musicians perform a special concert paying respect to Duke Ellington on his 120th birthday.

Composer and pianist Edward “Duke” Ellington (1899-1974) is considered a pivotal figure in the history of jazz. The orchestra he formed was the best known of all jazz acts. In addition to writing more than a thousand classic tunes — often with composer and Pittsburgher Billy Strayhorn (1915-1967) — Ellington also composed acclaimed scores for film that include 1959’a “Anatomy of a Murder.” Among the artist who performed with his famed orchestra is singer/actress Nichelle Nichols (best known for the television series  “Star Trek”).

This is an “all-ages” concert.
