The Biblical story of Christ’s birth is told through a unique perspective in this charming American opera.
Amahl is a boy who can walk only with a crutch and has a problem with telling tall tales. No one initially believes him when Amahl insists that he sees a special star in the sky. But that change when three royal travelers appear with precious gifts for a special newborn child.
Debuting in 1951, this was the first opera specifically written television. It was written by acclaimed Italian composer Gian Carlo Menotti (1911-2007) with the assistance of his life partner, American composer Samuel Barber (1910-1981).
