Complex, metaphorical and told in two parts, this Pulitzer Prize winning play examines homosexuality in America at height of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

The abbreviation HIV/AIDS refers to a spectrum of conditions that undermine the human immune system turning what might otherwise be minor illnesses into something fatal. HIV/AIDS is often spread through sexual contact and reached its deadly peak primarily among gay and bisexual men in the 1980’s.

Part one follows Prior Walter, a young man recently diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, as he embarks on a journey of spiritual discovery. This includes an affair with closeted attorney Joe Pitt, who works with controversial Republican power broker Roy Cohen (1927-1986). It culminates with visits by ghosts and an angel informing Prior that has been tasked with a special mission.
