Chatham University is a small, highly-regarded private university offering undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees.
The university began in 1869 as a single-gender educational institution called the Pennsylvania Female College. It was renamed Chatham College in 1955 in honor of William Pitt (1708-1778), the first Earl Of Chatham and for whom Pittsburgh is named. Over the years, Chatham expanded its graduate and doctoral programs to include male students and it became a university in 2007.
