An unusual love triangle is at the heart of this 1941 romantic comedy film.

The story centers on Austrian refugee Johnny Jones (Hedy Lamarr) who is having a discreet affair with a married man when a crisis erupts: her temporary passport has expired. Desperate, Johnny enters into a marriage of convenience with struggling writer Bill Smith (James Stewart). Unfortunately, this simple solution isn’t very simple when Bill realizes that Johnny’s lover just happens to be his publisher.

The screenplay is based on a story by Virginia Van Upp (1902-1970), a successful writer and producer at a time when Hollywood employed very few women in either roles.
