This locally made 2018 film is a unique piece of work — it’s a Japanese-language, animated documentary.

Filmmaker Keith Reimink uses “Western Sunrise” to tell the true story of a tuna trawler in 1954 whose crew survived the biggest explosion ever caused by man, the thermonuclear test in the Pacific Ocean known as Castle Bravo.

Presented as part of the Pittsburgh Japanese Film Fest, a celebration of Japanese culture through the cinematic arts.
