The hit 1992 Walt Disney Pictures film “Newsies” has been adapted to this exciting stage musical.

“Newsies” was inspired by the famous 1899 strike in New York City by the youth who distributed the city’s major newspapers. The strike lasted two weeks and forced publishers to increase the amount of money that newsies received for their work.

17-year-old Jack “Cowboy” Kelly is one of many struggling newspaper hawkers selling copies of the New York World on the streets of Manhattan. This is a tough existence and many of the boys are homeless orphans. But when his publisher increases the cost of the newspapers to the delivery boys, Jack and his peers go into action.

The score includes terrific songs such as “Santa Fe” and “That’s Rich.” Presented by Stage Right, a theater company and performing arts school founded in 1998.
