An ancient myth is brought from the distant past to a near future through this exciting, award winning musical.
That myth is the tale of musician and poet Orpheus — the son of the Greek deity Apollo and the muse Calliope — who travels to the dark underworld called Hades to rescue Eurydice, the woman he loves. “Hadestown” moves the action to the near future, where an economic depression ravages a world trying to piece itself back together. Among these struggling people are the workers of the underground factory owned by the coldhearted Hades. Eurydice, seeking economic stability, regretfully takes a job in Hadestown triggering Orpheus’ heroic efforts to save her from virtual slavery.
Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers and singers, the jazz/rock score of “Hadestown” creates a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.
