The Hemingway’s Summer Poetry Series is a literary program founded in 1974 by the eclectic Pittsburgh native Jimmy Cvetic (1949-2019) in the college-friendly Hemingway’s Cafe. He was an Allegheny County narcotics detective, boxing coach and poet. The café and program were named for American novelist and journalist Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961), whose economical and understated style continues to influence literature. He was also known for an adventurous lifestyle.
