This mixed-repertory production brings together three celebrated choreographers to create stunning dance for “the here and now”.

Among these is “The Quiet Dance” from Pittsburgh native Kyle Abraham (pictured). This piece captures the feelings of frustration and isolation through sweeping movement, beginning in silence and then carried by the gentleness of jazz pianist Bill Evans’ (1929-1980) arrangement of composer Leonard Bernstein’s  (1918-1990) song “Some Other Time.”

The song was written for the 1944 stage musical “On the Town,” a romantic comedy about sailors enjoying a 24-hour shore leave in New York City. The musical was adapted into a hit 1949 film co-starring Pittsburgh native Gene Kelley (1912-1996).

Presented by the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, the production also features work by choreographers Staycee Pearl and Dwight Rhoden.
