International Polar Bear Day is organized by Polar Bears International to raise awareness about the impact of global warming and reduced sea ice on polar bear populations

The widely accepted scientific concept of global warming refers to the long-term rise in the average temperature of the Earth’s climate system. Its existence has been demonstrated through a variety of measurement tools. While there have been prehistoric periods of global warming, many observed changes since the mid-20th century have been unprecedented. This is due, in part, to the emission of greenhouse gases (such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide) by human technology and industry.
