Nostalgia takes the stage as The Strand presents a concert event saluting those famous United Service Organization (USO) shows produced for our troops overseas back in the 1940s and 50s.
The USO was founded in 1941 by social reformer Mary Ingraham (1887-1981) to provide morale and recreation services to U.S. uniformed military personnel. It became famous for its traveling entertainment, especially Christmas shows.
“It’s a USO Christmas” features a wise-cracking song and dance man as emcee, a voluptuous bombshell and other iconic characters.
