This musical is inspired by the 1995 album of the same name by Canadian-American singer/songwriter Alanis Morissette and deals with pain, healing and empowerment.
The album marked a creative change for Morissette. It was a departure from her dance-pop sound and an entry into the experimental world of alternative rock. The lyrics touch upon themes of aggression and unsuccessful relationships.
Using songs from the album, “Jagged Little Pills” centers on a seemingly happy wife and mother who is struggling with an addiction to pain killers. But her situation is actually complicating the lives of her husband and kids, who are tackling their own issues.
