A group of bands led by the Jakob’s Ferry Stragglers (pictured) perform songs from the soundtrack to the 2000 film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”

The Jakob’s Ferry Stragglers are a four piece string band based out of Pittsburgh that combines a variety of influences ranging from bluegrass, country, jazz, rock and 1930’s-style swing music to create a tight, high-energy sound, complete with heavy grooves, soulful ballads and extended jams — cherry-topped with well-blended harmony and honest songwriting.

“O Brother, Where Art Thou?” is a satire set in rural Mississippi during the 1930’s and follows three escaped convicts as they search for hidden treasure while a relentless lawman pursues them. The film’s soundtrack overflows with contemporary renditions of classic folk tunes including 1939’s “You Are My Sunshine” and 1929’s “I’ll Fly Away.”
