First staged in 1988, this acclaimed play is a signature work of writer A. R. Gurney (1930-2017) with this production starring beloved TV stars Meredith Baxter and Michael Gross (“Family Ties”).
The story is about two life-long friends, Andrew and Melissa, as told through their correspondence. They exchange letters through boarding school, college and adulthood. Andy marries, becomes a successful attorney and is elected to the U.S. Senate. Her marriage in tatters, Melissa dabbles in art, booze and gigolos, eventually becoming estranged from her children. But their letters make clear that, even physically apart, these two people are spiritually as close as only true lovers can be.
