See Jamaican icon Orville “Shaggy” Burrell perform his biggest hits and present a history of reggae music with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
Jamaica is an island nation in the Caribbean Sea and part of the British Commonwealth. The country’s rich culture is a fascinating amalgamation created over centuries. One result is Shaggy’s specialty: reggae, which merges mento (traditional Jamaican folk music) with elements of rhythm & blues and jazz. Shaggy has developed his own vocal style dubbed “toasting.”
“Mr. Symphonic” offers a vibrant showcase of reggae classics reimagined for orchestra by renowned American composer David Serkin.
