This engrossing 2016 film documentary examines the accomplishments of Japanese animator, filmmaker, screenwriter, cartoonist, author and manga artist Hayao Miyazaki.

Born in 1941, Hayao Niyaaki has attained international acclaim as a masterful storyteller and as a maker of anime feature films, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest animation filmmakers. He co-founded the groundbreaking animation company Studio Ghibli in 1985, which has produced some of the most popular animation films in Japanese history.

This film follows his life over a two-year span as he tries to find a new calling and burning desire to created while tacking a technology he’s never used before — computer generated imaging (CGI).

Presented as part of the Pittsburgh Japanese Film Fest, a celebration of Japanese culture through the cinematic arts.
