The popular series of Japanese children’s novels — known in English as The Young Innkeeper is a Grade Schooler — have been adapted for this 2018 animated film.
Like the books, the film tells the story of a young girl named Okko who becomes the new junior inn keeper at her grandmother’s countryside inn. She soon encounters a surprise: that the inn is also home to friendly spirits who teach her that being a gracious host means more than just good hospitality.
Presented as part of the Pittsburgh Japanese Film Fest, a celebration of Japanese culture through the cinematic arts.
