Meet the mingle at this dual opening receptions for the exhibits “I Came by Boat So Meet Me at the Beach” (first floor) and “Vanishing Black Bars & Lounges” (second floor).

For “I Came by Boat So Meet Me at the Beach,” performance artist Ayana M. Evans and multidisciplinary artist Tsedaye Makonnen created new collaborative works and performances that explore the legacies of Black radical womanhood in relationship to well-being, ritual and physical labor.

In “Vanishing Black Bars & Lounges,” New Orleans-based photographer L. Kasimu Harris documents disappearing social halls and leisure clubs that were safe gathering spaces for African Americans for entertainment, benevolent causes and community activism.
