Labor Day in the United States is a holiday celebrating men and women who are employed in manual labor. It is believed that the idea originated with union leader Peter J. McGuire (1852-1906) in 1882. Starting on the state level, Labor Day received national status in 1894 when it received federal recognition as an official holiday. Culturally, Labor Day is often seen as the “unofficial end of summer.”

Admission is free. The parade begins at PPG Paints Arena and continues down the Boulevard of the Allies to the United Steelworkers Building on Stanwix Street. Presented by the Allegheny/Fayette County Central Labor Council. For more information, call (412) 281-7450.
