The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performs one of the most beautiful works written by German composer Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827).

Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).

Beethoven completed his “Pastoral Symphony” in 1808. It reflects the composer’s love of nature with allusions to singing birds and flowing streams.

Swiss-Italian pianist Francesco Piemontesi (pictured) also appears with the PSO to perform two local premieres.
