The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performs award winning American composer John Williams’ acclaimed score for the first film in the “Harry Potter” series of movies — as it is shown on a giant screen.

Harry Potter is the central character in a series of novels written by British author J. K. Rowling and first released in 1997. Harry is a young wizard who discovers his magical heritage on his eleventh birthday when he receives a letter of acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. The novels follow Harry and his friends battling the forces of evil while facing the challenges of adolescence. The first of eight films was released in 2001.

Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).
