German baritone Matthias Goerne joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and conductor Manfred Honeck in a larger-than-life program is one filled with colossal drama.

Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).

Experience African-American composer Carlos Simon’s Pittsburgh premiere of “Fate Now Conquers”, inspired by a quote from German composer Ludwig van Beethoven’s (1770-1827) own journal depicting “the uncertainty of life that hovers over us.”

The program continues with Beethoven’s famous Fifth Symphony followed by the powerhouse voice of Matthias Goerne, highlighting the greatest moments of German composer Richard Wagner’s (1813-1883) opera repertoire.
