Ray Chen joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in performing classic compositions about romance.

Taiwanese-Australian violinist Ray Chen has been recognized as an extraordinarily gifted classical musician since he began performing in 1997 at the tender age of 8. More than a decade later he was earning honors at such prestigious events as the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition.

Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).

Among the program’s highlights are portions of the 1912 ballet “Daphnis et Chloé” written by French composer Maurice Ravel (1875-1937). “Daphnis et Chloé” is an adaptation of an ancient Greek play about the love between a goat herder and a shepherdess. Ray Chen will also perform a violin concerto written by French composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957).
