Czech composer Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904 penned this engaging 1901 opera inspired by a legendary character from Slavic mythology.

Rusalka is a mermaid-like creature known as a water nymph who has fallen in love with a human prince. Determined to win the royal heart, Rusalka makes a tragic deal with a conniving witch that may end disastrously for everyone involved.

The libretto was written by noted Czech poet Jaroslav Kvapil (1868-1950).  Presented by the Pittsburgh Opera, the eighth oldest company in the United States.
