With sweet songs such as “Vanilla Ice Cream,” this elegantly romantic musical comedy is the delightful tale of two people who don’t realize that they love each other.

This musical travels back to 1934 and to Budapest businessman Zoltan Maraczek’s posh perfume shop. It is here that employees Georg Nowack and Amalia Balash who, despite being consistently at odds with each other at work, are unaware that each is the other’s secret pen pal met through lonely-hearts ads.

First staged in 1963, “She Loves Me” has an impressive pedigree. It began in 1937 as the play “Parfumerie” by Hungarian playwright Miklos Laszlo (1903-1973). The play was first adapted to film in 1940 as “The Shop Around the Corner” starring Jimmy Stewart and again as the 1949 musical “In the Good Old Summertime” starring Judy Garland. “Parfumerie” made it to the screen for a third time in 1998 as “You’ve Got Mail” starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
