Gracefully beautiful choreography and a stunning score by Russian composer Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) have made this ballet a beloved work since its 1890 debut.
Written by an unknown author in the 14th Century, “Sleeping Beauty” is a classic fairy tale about a princess who is cursed to sleep for a hundred years by an evil fairy, to be awakened by a handsome prince at the end of them.
This adaptation has become one of the classical repertoire’s most famous ballets. Presented by the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, which has been staging professional ballet in Pittsburgh since 1969.
