This exhibition features work by artists of Ukrainian descent presented as a response to the recent invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation.

Russia and Ukraine have a long, intertwined history. Princes from the capital city of Kyiv (a.k.a. Kiev) founded the Land of Rus in the 9th Century CE. The two have been, at different points in history, separate countries and others part of the same country. Ukraine regained independence in 1991. Russian invaded in February 2022 with the apparent aim of forcing Ukraine to become part of it again.

People around the world struggle to make sense of the inhumane and senseless attacks taking place. Ukrainian-American’s watch from afar as their people and homeland are under fire. Though the emotions caused by these circumstances may be hard to put into words, expression can always be found through art.

Ukrainian art and culture is rich in tradition, from the pysanky egg, to the delicious foods such as varenyky and paska, to the vibrant and soulful Ukrainian folk art and music, and more.
