Take a walk through the Desmone Architecture office space in an iconic historic bank building where two neighborhoods meet.

What is now Desmone Architects is the former corporate headquarters of the Pennsylvania National Bank. The 1903 structure is a one-story, Beaux-Arts-style building constructed from buff-colored brick with terra cotta ornaments. The bank’s footprint is trapezoidal, with the non-parallel sides defined by the streets on either side.

Standing in front of the building is a World War I (1914-1918) memorial sculpted by Allen George Newman (1875-1940) and dedicated on Memorial Day in 1921.

The tour includes a look at the original banking area and an existing vault as well as an addition using the WELL Building Standards that encourages design compatible to the environment.

There will be a second tour at 1:00 p.m. Presented as part of Doors Open Pittsburgh, which celebrates Pittsburgh’s unique heritage by providing visual storytelling and education inside iconic and newly designed buildings. For more information, call (412) 583-1424.
