Washington is a town of 13,000 people and the seat of rural Washington County, the first county in the United States to be named after the nation’s first president, George Washington (1732-1799). The town was incorporated in 1810.
Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the Downtown streetscape takes you on a visual tour of the evolution of American architecture, with preserved examples of Georgian, Italianate, Queen Anne, Beaux-Arts, Colonial Revival and Art Deco styles.
