This exciting program provides high school students and their adult mentors the opportunity to work and create together to solve a common problem. Teams of students are challenged to design, build, and program robots and compete for awards, while they also create a team identity, raise funds and hone teamwork skills.
A robot is a machine capable of carrying out a complex series of actions, either automatically through pre-programming or remotely by human direction. The term “robot” was invented by Czech painter and poet Josef Capek (1887-1945) whose brother, writer Karel Capek (1890-1938), introduced it in his 1920 play “R.U.R.”
Presented by FIRST Western & Central Pennsylvania operates under the umbrella of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a non-profit organization dedicated inspiring young people to be science and technology leaders,
