Gear up for the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh with a craft beer competition designed to spotlight local breweries, regional malt, and the role innovative partnerships can play in a more sustainable and resilient food system.
Beer is among the oldest and most popular alcoholic beverages in the world. It’s brewed from cereal grains with hops added to provide additional flavor. Archeological evidence suggests that beer was first created over 13,000 years ago. The phrase “craft beer” refers to a specialty variety made in small quantities at what is often called a “microbrewery.”
The National Football League (NFL) has staged a player recruitment draft since 1936. The draft consists of seven rounds, giving the teams with the worst record placed first in the drafting order. Pittsburgh last hosted the NFL Draft in 1948.
Participating breweries create a unique beer using the locally made Allegheny Mountain Malt and take part in a tasting experience that connects farmers, maltsters, distributors, breweries, bars and beer lovers from Pittsburgh and beyond.
Proceeds benefit environmental stewardship organization Sustainable Pittsburgh and food organization Food 21.
