Starting in the Strip District and traveling through the Cultural District is the city’s annual Pride March.
Pride Month is an annual celebration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. The word and concept of “pride” is in direct opposition to that of “shame” (or social stigma), which sexual minorities have had to endure for centuries. June is chosen as Pride Month in recognition of the Stonewall Riots, which happen in New York City on June 28, 1969. This event marked the start to what is now the LGBT Rights Movement.
The parade concludes on the city’s North Side for the annual Pride Fest celebration.
