The controversial mixing of politics with higher education is the focus f this compelling 2026 documentary film.
Founded 1960, the New College of Florida is an autonomous college within the state university system. Florida state law mandates that it be a “residential liberal arts honors college”. But in 2023, Governor Ron DeSantis replaced the institution’s board with a slate of conservative activists — some of whom don’t live in Florida.
The film combines director Patrick Bresnan’s own footage e with board meeting recordings and video shot by students. The result shows the tumult faced on campus during first 18 months of the new leadership.
Presented as part of Reel Q, which has been amplifying LGBTQ+ stories through film since 1982.
