This exhibition showcases the diverse and richly creative membership of the Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA).
Mosaic art first appeared in what is now Iraq about 5,000 years ago. A mosaic is an image or pattern created by combining pieces of colored stone, glass or ceramic. Mosaic murals were especially popular as home décor in Ancient Greece and Rome. Founded in 1998, SAMA is a non-profit organization dedicated to to educating, inspiring and promoting excellence in mosaic arts.
The works of seasoned professionals are displayed alongside that of enthusiastic newcomers to the mosaic-making process culminating in over 100 moments of life rendered in mosaic by artists from all over the world.
