Completed in 1888, the Allegheny Courthouse complex is one of Pittsburgh’s most iconic structures. It is a signature project of noted architect Henry Hobson Richardson (1838-1886) — so much so that it is an excellent example of a style known as Richardsonian Romanesque.

Richardsonian Romanesque emphasizes clear, strong picturesque massing and round-headed arches often found in 11th and 12th century European buildings.

Presented by Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation, an organization founded in 1964 by a group of citizens who passionately believe that historic preservation can be a tool for renewing communities.
