Local penguin experts Katie Manion and Cathy Schlott are joined by a genuine African penguin for a fun and informative look at the AZA SAFE effort to save these charming, flightless birds.
Saving Animals from Extinction (SAFE) is a program of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) to prevent species from dying off. The National Aviary is part of this effort which includes the African penguin.
Penguins are undeniably charismatic — and full of surprises. Dive into the fascinating world of penguins to discover their remarkable adaptations, quirky behaviors and the challenges they face in the wild. The National Aviary is home to a thriving colony of African Penguins and proudly leads the AZA SAFE African Penguin program dedicated to their survival.
100% of the ticket sales from this event will be donated back to the research department to help support their ongoing work.
