Gather with the literary likeminded for a fascinating discussion of the novel Speak written by award winning author Laurie Halse Anderson.
The novel follows Melinda Sordino, a high school freshman who becomes a social pariah when she calls the police to a party after she is sexually assaulted. Melinda stops speaking almost entirely as she grapples with her isolation and the trauma of the assault. Through art, she reclaims her voice and begins to heal.
Presented in partnership with Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR), the first victim service agency in Allegheny County and one of the first rape crisis centers in the nation.
