James Stewart puts aside his nice-guy image for this 1952 biographical film about a man who rises above his criminal past.
That man was David Marshall Williams (1900-1975), a mentally challenged who was convicted in 1921 of murdering a deputy sheriff after his illegal distillery was raided. While serving a 30-year sentence, Williams invented technology that led to the development of semi-automatic firearms such as the M1 Carbine.
“Carbine Williams” follows David has he cycles through the prison system until a firm but compassionate warden allows him to work in the prison tool shop. For more information, call (724) 349-6112.
