The local group Sphinx Trio performs some of the works of Ornette Coleman.
Saxophonist, violinist, trumpeter and composer Ornette Coleman (1930-2015) was one of the founders of free jazz, an approach that developed in the 1960’s when musicians attempted to change or break down jazz conventions, such as regular tempos, tones and chord changes. Coleman’s album “Sound Grammar” received the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for music.
A post-concert documentary film about Coleman’s legacy will be screened. This is an “all-ages” concert.
