This exhibition is a sample international survey of members of the International Sculpture Center and artists from around the world.
Human beings appear to have been making their own ceramics for at least 26,000 years by subjecting clay and silica to intense heat to fuse and form ceramic materials. These materials have been used to create both practical and artistic items. The word “ceramic” comes from a Greek word meaning “of pottery.”
Ceramics possess a unique duality: it is both ancient and contemporary, fragile and durable, domestic and monumental. Through sculptural approaches, artists can activate clay as a site of resistance, storytelling, and experimentation, pushing scale, surface, and structure to challenge how ceramics are perceived and valued.
