The Cities of Asylum is an international network of organizations committed to protecting and promoting freedom of speech and publication including the physical safety of writers. Pittsburgh joined this network in 2004 with a specific mission: to provide sanctuary to literary writers who were exiled and under threat of persecution.
This free, outdoor event is being shown on a temporary stage sponsored by technology pioneer Green Mountain Energy in a parking lot on Seventh Street. Presented as part of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, a 10-day celebration of visual and performing arts produced by the nonprofit Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and primarily sponsored by local financial firm Dollar Bank.
