This captivating 2017 French film relates the true story of famous guitarist and composer Django Reinhardt’s (1910-1953) daring flight to freedom from occupied France during World War II (1939-1945).
Jazz guitarist and composer Jean “Django” Reinhardt is regarded as one of the greatest musicians of the twentieth century. He was the first jazz talent to emerge from Europe and remains the most significant. Of Romani (i.e., “gypsy”) descent, Reinhardt was placed in dangerous position when the Nazi regime wanted to send him on a propaganda tour — even as they were persecuting his gypsy brethren.
