Musician and composer Terence Blanchard leads a collection of amazing artists perform selections from his masterful jazzy opera, “Fire Shut Up in My Bones.”

“Fire Shut Up in My Bones” is an adaptation of the 2014 memoir of the same name written by journalist Charles M. Blow (born 1970). The narrative follows a young African American man as he struggles to reconcile the sexual abuse he endured as a child.

When it was produced at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, “Fire” became the first opera by an African American composer to be performed at the company since its founding in 1883.

Terence is joined by his band, The E-Collective, the jazz group Turtle Island Quartet, guest vocalists Will Liverman and Adrienne Danrich and visual artist Andrew F. Scott — whose video projections give the audience a look inside the mind of Blanchard, and the gravitational pull of the work that he has created.
