Bachata is a style of music and dance that originated on the Caribbean Island of Hispaniola (home of the Dominican Republic and Hati). This exciting art form draws on African, Spanish and Caribbean cultural elements. Bachata arose among the poor and working class in the 1960’s and gained mainstream popularity 25 years later.
