Step inside the “Greetings” exhibition for an evening where community, culture, and play come together.
The exhibit explores how a greeting — known as a dap — evolved into one of the most recognizable expressions in Black culture. Dapping originated among African American service members during the latter part of the Vietnam War (1955-1975) Its main use was to instill solidarity among Black soldiers, conveying their commitment to look after one another in the face of racism in the military.
Whether you’re pulling up a chair for a game of spades, challenging someone to classic video games, listening to music, or simply enjoying good conversation, the “Greetings Kickback” is designed to recreate the spirit of the gatherings that have brought people together across generations.
