This 2001 fantasy film is an adaptation of the first Harry Potter young adult novel.
Harry Potter is the central character in a series of novels written by British author J. K. Rowling and first released in 1997. Harry is a young wizard who discovers his magical heritage on his eleventh birthday when he receives a letter of acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. The novels follow Harry and his friends battling the forces of evil while facing the challenges of adolescence.
This first installment follows the orphan Harry as he begins his new life at Hogwarts where he meets new friends, starts learning how to use his powers and becomes enmeshed in a search for the source of immortality. An alternative title for this film, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”
