The largest affirming prom in Southwestern Pennsylvania marks its tenth anniversary with a circus-theme gala.
Begun in the late 19th century the prom (short for “promenade”) has been an American teen age tradition for generations. High School seniors attend a semi-formal dance party to mark their transition to adulthood. The event apparently originated with the debutante ball, a formal spring party were young women (debutants) are officially introduced to high society.
Entry to prom includes dinner, dancing, art activities, and much more. Prom is open to all youth ages 13 to 18 regardless of how they identify.
