This symposium will offer presentations and panels that address organizing and activism rooted in the life ideas, and legacy of Martin R. Delany (pictured).

The impressive polymath Martin R. Delany (1812-1885) was a journalist, physician, military officer and writer. Born a free man of color during the era of American slavery, Delany was a vocal abolitionist who promoted Black Pride. Delany is also notable for treating cholera patients in Pittsburgh when many doctors and residents fled the city out of fear of contamination.

The symposium will feature three panel discussions with visiting scholars from universities and institutions across the country.
