Crtitcs are raving about this 2026 documentary film about the polarizing “Cruising.”
First released in 1980, “Cruising” stars Al Pacino as a police officer investigating a series of murders occurring in New York City’s gay leather scene. “Cruising” was based on a 1970 novel of the same name but hit theaters not long after a real series of gay murders. The film also caused immediate controversy for its depiction of gay and bisexual men.
“Mineshaft” explores the making of “Cruising” and its complicated legacy.
Presented as part of Reel Q, which has been amplifying LGBTQ+ stories through film since 1982.
